Jones, C.P.M.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sadly, developing kidney stones is\nincreasing and medical reports reveal an average of over 1 million Americans annually\nsuffer serious urinary tract complications.&nbsp;\nDoctors\u2019 projections estimate that 10% of the U.S. population will have\na kidney stone at some point in their lives.&nbsp;\nKidney stones can be jagged or smooth and range in size from microscopic\nspecks to the size of a fingertip.&nbsp; There\nare four kinds of kidney stones: calcium stones, uric acid stones, struvite\nstones and cystine stones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Happily, knowing how to eat certain foods\nand liquids can prevent ever having to endure the pain of kidney stones.&nbsp; For the record, when the salts and minerals\nnormally found in our urine become out of balance, kidney stones form.&nbsp; Kidney stones, medically termed renal\ncalculi, are accumulations of mineral salts that can lodge anywhere along the\ncourse of the urinary tract.&nbsp; Should the\nprotective compounds in the kidneys become overwhelmed or the immune system\nbecome depressed, the mineral salts may crystallize and the crystals can clump\ntogether, eventually forming stones large enough to restrict urinary flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Located near the middle of our back, just\nbelow the rib cage, are two kidneys are bean-shaped organs, each about the size\nof our fist.&nbsp; Amazingly, every day our\nkidneys process roughly 200 quarts of blood to flush out about 2 quarts of\nwaste products and extra water, which together become urine that flows to our\nbladder through tubes called ureters.&nbsp; After\nour body takes what it needs from what we ingest, the kidneys work processing\nthat blood to remove wastes and toxins.&nbsp; In\naddition to removing wastes, our kidneys help control blood pressure, make red\nblood cells and keep our bones strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prevention of kidney stones is simple, but\nrequires discipline.&nbsp; Reduce your intake\nof potassium and phosphates by eliminating any salt or potassium chloride, salt\nsubstitute, and above all avoid carbonated soft drinks.&nbsp; Use only distilled water for cooking and add\ntrace mineral drops to your drinking water, which should be 8 to 12 cups of\nwater per day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The toughest discipline is to minimize your\nconsumption of animal protein, or eliminate it from your diet altogether.&nbsp; Ingesting animal protein causes the body to\nexcrete calcium, producing excessive amounts of calcium, phosphorus, and uric\nacid in the kidneys that cause kidney stones.&nbsp;\nIdentically, ingesting processed sugar and sugary-filled products will\nwrongly stimulate the pancreas to release insulin and cause an excretion of too\nmuch calcium into the urine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regularly ingesting foods containing vitamin\nA helps to prevent stones within the urinary tract.&nbsp; Vitamin A enriched foods include alfalfa,\napricots, cantaloupes, carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, squash, fish, cod liver oil, broccoli &amp; broccoli\nleaf, kale, spinach, pea, collard greens, cantaloupe melon, papaya, and mango.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8212; <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/Www.SugarAlert.com\"><em>Www.SugarAlert.com<\/em><\/a><em> &#8212;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Dean L.
